Summer Adventure Season Begins

We spent last weekend doing a bit of a test run/shakedown of our camp set up for summer adventuring season. We had picked up a bit of gear we needed to install on/in the tent plus just remembering the install and removal process. We added some stairs to the ladder which made climbing and working on the tent absolutely lovely. Not visible but just as helpful we added a leveling device, clips for fairy lights for the tent, and some bolts to assist the placement of the shoe rack to make it easier to access. We also got a little yard sign to try to keep people from stealing our wood from our campsite when we are out exploring for the day since the tent doesn’t get left in our site.

We spent Friday and Saturday nights at Twin Harbors State Park which is located in West Port, Washington. We got to enjoy some nice beach walking (Pippin’s favorite) as well as exploring a carriage museum in nearby Raymond and some tasty eats and the jetty in West Port. The weather was lovely and the facilities were great. It was a nice little opening weekend. Looking forward to getting a few excursions in this season. Nothing quite so adventurous as our one month around the country trip like we did last year, however, fun excursions none the less. At the end of this month we will be headed for the southern Oregon coast to finally get to enjoy Cape Blanco Lighthouse. Every time we e managed to get that far south it’s either been closed or so fogged in and closed we couldn’t get to it. It also happens we will be close enough that taking a short jaunt into Northern California and enjoying the Redwoods would be a shame to miss out on so that will be happening too! We also have a trip to the Oregon Caves, Crater Lake, and the Newberry Crater lined up for mid July as well!!

Pippin is starting to show his age. Besides long walks in the beach he enjoys sleeping in the sun and napping in his sleeping bag.

Me and a bear at the Carriage Museum

There were several carriages from famous movies that were on display and restored. The most famous of which was from Gone With The Wind. The curators were a husband and wife team and they were very passionate about their collection and enjoyed showing it off. They had some truly remarkable pieces.

We found my section…aka the touching and exploring is allowed section…don’t judge me because it’s the kids section!

We saw this little friend near the jetty rocks. PSA please keep back and your kids/animals from approaching these adorable but protected mammals. Seal mamas leave their babies on the beach to go eat and come back to nurse but they are positively awful moms and will abandon their babies if they get the slightest whiff of a predator in the area….this includes well meaning humans. If you are concerned please contact the wildlife authorities in your area and they will monitor and if necessary take a truly abandoned animal to a rehabilitation center like the one I volunteer at to get these little ones back in their feet.
